Labyrinth

Some work in process for an upcoming project. This piece was inspired by a descrip-

-tion of a labyrinthian city, I thought it could make an interesting image. Keep

an eye out for more to come from this project.

Coffee Shops

For an ongoing project I am looking to explore something slightly different. These

very quick sketches of people are designed as an obvious contrast to my normal work

and will hopefully help me develop my figurative work. Hope you like it!

The Duke Street Emporium

I have just recently completed a collaboration with Jigsaw and the Duke Street

Emporium, working with them to create artwork and installation for their Duke Street

store. The inspiration for these pieces came from three key cities, Berlin, Reykjavik

and Paris. I produced imagery for each individual city which was installed in frames

as well as within wardrobes. We also created an installation of a building block

inspired city within the entrance to the shop, designed specifically to allow product

to merge with the artworks. It was a great project to work on and a challenge to

explore my illustrations on a larger scale.

Paris and Reykjavik

For my collaboration with Jigsaw and the Duke Street Emporium I was asked to produce

images of Paris and Reykjavik, two of the key inspirations for this years collection.

Royal College of Art

A recent commission I completed for the RCA, looking to create a drawing where the

various campuses of the college were all combined in one location. A difficult image

to compose due to the specifics of each building.

RCA Show 2014

I have just completed my two years at the RCA, which seemed to go by in seconds.

The final show is up through the end of June, and there is some great work to see!

Jigsaw Menswear

I have recenty completed a series of Havana themed windows for Jigsaw Menswear, in

their Avery Row and Islington stores. It was my first time working on a project of

this sort, but hopefully more to come!

For more images and an interview see the Jigsaw blog:

Cityscape at Night

I just completed this illustration of a dark city scape. It is hopefully the first in

a series of illustrations sharing the same format exploring an imaginary city, with

the hope of eventually exhibiting a series. So keep your eye out for more to come.

I will add more images to this post as the project progresses.

Rose Window

I have always been fascinated with the form of the rose window and its role in the

church. I wanted to explore how I could place my own imagery within a similar struc-

ture. I'm quite pleased with the result, but feel there is much more exploring to do

around this idea. Hopefully I can take it a little further.

Glitches x Moleskine - Only Time Will Tell

I was really excited to be given a small part on this great collaboration between

Moleskine and Glitches. It was my first experience with animation of this sort and it

was great to have a chance to contribute to the clip. The full video can be seen HERE

Through this, a screenshot of my work made the Moleskine homepage. After years of

working in their notebooks it was great to see my drawing up there!

The Ritzy

A drawing I did of The Ritzy Brixton to accompany a recent event with Cogo House.

I've been struggling with drawing recently, but was nice to be doing something

familiar. Hopefully more updates to come soon, some exciting work coming up.

The Body Electric

I have recently been taking the Visual Research course at the RCA. One of the proj-

-ects called 'Body Electric' set the task of looking at the human form. I decided to

do this in a very quick manner allowing myself only one minute for each drawing.

The above are a couple of those drawings, focusing on a family barbecue.

Shortlisted for the AOI Illustration Awards

I am really pleased to hear that my Vertigo illustration was shortlisted in the Self

Initiated category of the AOI Illustration awards. There are some amazing pieces

shortlisted, fingers crossed I can make it through a little further.  You can see the

shortlist on this website

Experiments with figure drawing

With a new project I am looking to explore the figure alongside my work. While I be-

gan to explore people within my images in the last few months, I wanted to continue

this. I am starting by exploring a few different images, to practice. I have been

drawing from a digital mannequin - manipulating the form into varying positions.

The Golden Hour

An illustration I produced exclusively for Cogo House is currently for sale over on

their website alongside some other great prints. Go have a browse through their shop

and blog for more information.

St. Pancras

I drew this image in response to a description of St. Pancras as fairytale like,

rising from the London skyline its pink brickwork glowing. This image was part of

my recent project in response to Jonathan Meads essay Terminal.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early Christmas

It's a little early to be showing Christmas cards, but I recently finished this for

a competition at the RCA. I drew the scene from an old photograph of Oxford Circus,

then added the lights taking inspiration from early decorations on Regents street.

The Christmas lights in London are a festive tradition and I thought they would be

a nice focus for a card.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

St. Pancras

A spread of my illustrations exploring St. Pancras station, exploring the architecture

and the fantastical nature of the building. I like the way they are framed within the

sketchbook, and feel they work well as a spread.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sketchbook Work

It has been a while since I last uploaded any sketchbook work. This is partially be-

-cause I have been working in my A3 sketchbook, which does not fit in my scanner.  I

have enjoyed getting back into a smaller sketchbook, it is a comforting way of work-

-ing and releasing ideas. These are two pages of work from my 'Terminal' project, the

upper image is exploring St. Pancras, the bottom was inspired by Waterloo Sunset.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

London Transport Museum

I currently have a piece up at the London Transport Museum as part of the Tube150

events. The piece is a result of a competition run by the London Transport Museum and

the RCA, the brief was to imagine a tube poster for 2063, what will be the two hund-

-redth anniversary of the London Underground. If your at the museum, go have a look,

it's on the second floor Poster Parade.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Terminal (Continued)

Another image from my project on stations. I am continuing to explore how I can use

people in my work, for this image focusing solely on figurative elements. This image

is in response to an essay by Jonathan Meades. A work in process.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Terminal

Part of a new project exploring four train stations across London. Starting by looking

at Paddington. With this project I have challenged myself to somehow involve people

in my drawings. The activities of people at stations are important and i felt it would

be wrong not to try and include them. However, I have not produced any figurative draw-

-ings for a long time and it is taking me a while to work out how to make them sit

alongside my drawings of the building itself. Hopefully they work together?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Big Sleep

Some work in process for the Penguin Design Awards competition. This years book is

The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. After reading the book I was struggling to capture

the atmosphere of the novel while avoiding all the associated cliches. The chess meta-

-phor within the book interested me, I have tried to apply this to the illustration.

If Marlowe is the knight who has no place on the chess board, then I imagined that

the city itself is the chess board he describes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vertigo

I just completed this illustration in response to the word 'Vertigo', I chose to

focus on the sensations of falling and spinning associated with vertigo, trying to

find an image that could represent and possibly evoke these symptoms. I'm not sure

if it's entirely there yet, but I hope you like it.

Order Amidst Chaos

This is an illustration I produced as part of a project for the LTM and London Under-

-ground. The image was intended for a poster and will not be used in this state but

has been altered for my final image. It was nice to apply my illustrations to differ-

-ent subject matter and see it work, though i couldn't resist drawing the future city.

Coincidentally, a different illustration of mine is currently on display in the LTM.

If anyone wants to have a look, it's there until the 10th of December as part of the

Secret London Exhibit, see below for more information.

Work in Process

I am currently working on a brief focusing on the visualisation of data collected from

the World Values Survey. This image is an experiment exploring possible imagery for an

illustration demonstrating the importance of tradition to the Japanese respondents. The

varying opacities relate to the level of importance placed on tradition; the area rel-

-ates to the percentage of respondents for each answer.

Secret London 2012 at the London Transport Museum

On Monday I attended the private view of the Secret London 2012 exhibit at the London Transport Museum, where my work is currently on show as part of the Serco Prize for Illustration. Theres some great work in the exhibit and I am lucky to be included

among them, a big congratulations to the award winners Finn Clark, Chis King and Guy

Roberts.

Rooftops

A rough idea I'm looking at exploring. Just experimenting a bit. I feel I've spent

a lot of time recently focusing too much on the buildings, it might be nice to just

look at the roofs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evesham

I have been doing some drawings around Evesham exploring the local area.

I am really interested in roofs at the moment, it may be something I'll be exploring

for a while. Follow on twitter for updates.

Hawksmoor Churches

I have been wanting to do a project on Hawksmoor for a while now, I'm beginning to

start creating some imagery and research into his work. It's really nice to be draw-

-ing churches again.

EDIT: Think I prefer this image. I have a fascination with layering images, but try

to avoid using software to make them. I spend a lot of time arguing with my photo-

-copier.

Feels good to find time to do some drawings again.
